Honour killing story

Ayse
born: 1975
stabbed to death: 8 May 2013
Place of residence: Alsdorf (near Aachen)
Origin: victim: presumed Turkey; perpetrator: Turkey
Children: 4
Perpetrator: her ex-boyfriend Ramazan A. (39 years)
Ayse and Ramazan are 4 years together and have 2 children together. Both have 2 more children each from previous relationships. Because domestic violence occurs, Ayse obtains a prohibition of approach. Ramazan, who has been convicted several times, will not accept this.

On 8 May 2013 he follows the car of his former partner with the motor scooter, in the helmet compartment a knife from his sister's household. On a parking lot he attacks Ayse. The 11-year-old son tries to protect his mother. The father also threatens him and then stabs the mother, who is crouching on the ground. The two children are also present. The mother can still call the police, but dies despite emergency surgery in hospital. Ramazan flees, turns himself in to the police shortly afterwards.

In November 2013 the trial before the Aachen jury court will begin. In December Ramazan is sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for manslaughter. The judge uses the word "slaughter" in his statement.

Note: The woman's real name is not known, nor is her origin (Turkey?). We are happy about hints.

What is an honour killing?

An honour killing is a murder in the name of honour. If a brother murders his sister to restore family honour, it is an honour killing. According to activists, the most common reasons for honour killings are as the victim:

  • refuses to cooperate in an arranged marriage.

  • wants to end the relationship.

  • was the victim of rape or sexual assault.

  • was accused of having a sexual relationship outside of marriage.

Human rights activists believe that 100,000 honour killings are carried out every year, most of which are not reported to the authorities and some are even deliberately covered up by the authorities themselves, for example because the perpetrators are good friends with local policemen, officials or politicians. Violence against girls and women remains a serious problem in Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Serbia and Turkey.
