Claudia Küfte Born: 1982
stabbed: 7/8 February 2009
Residence: Groß-Börnecke / Saxony-Anhalt
Origin: victim: Germany; perpetrator: Turkey
Children: she was heavily pregnant
Perpetrator: her husband Cengiz Küfte (at the time of the crime 29 years old)
Claudia was pregnant and was due to give birth in early March 2009. But four weeks before the due date, she is stabbed to death by her husband Cengiz. The two had married in Turkey in August 2008. Cengiz had already been deported from Germany once, but was granted a residence permit as a result of the marriage. Together the couple ran a kebab store.
On the morning of February 8, Claudia's mother finds the body. The murder weapon is a knife from the snack bar. The stabs would have been placed in such a way that the child was killed anyway. This could indicate that Cengiz suspected that the child was not his and thus felt that his honor had been violated. An international arrest warrant will be issued.
After a manhunt, Cengiz is arrested in Berlin on March 21, six weeks after the crime, in the apartment of a relative.
In September 2009, the trial begins before the Magdeburg District Court. Although the court has no doubt about his responsibility for the crime, the perpetrator is permanently placed in a psychiatric ward in November.
