Honour killing story
born: 1996
Attempted murder: 14 April 2019
Location: Bremen
Origin: unclear
Children: unclear
Perpetrator: her husband (31 years old at the time of the crime)
On April 14, 2019, a man stabbed his wife in the shared apartment in the Neustadt district of Bremen with a knife in her throat. She is seriously injured and is taken to hospital, undergoes emergency surgery and survives. The man wants to "visit" her and is arrested.
Nothing else is known, not even the names and nationality of the persons involved. This does not have to be an attempt at honour killing. However, a "knife in the throat" could indicate this. One could assume cautiously: If the perpetrator was German, the nationality would have been revealed. But anything is possible.
What is an honour killing? |
An honour killing is a murder in the name of honour. If a brother murders his sister to restore family honour, it is an honour killing. According to activists, the most common reasons for honour killings are as the victim:
Human rights activists believe that 100,000 honour killings are carried out every year, most of which are not reported to the authorities and some are even deliberately covered up by the authorities themselves, for example because the perpetrators are good friends with local policemen, officials or politicians. Violence against girls and women remains a serious problem in Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Serbia and Turkey. |
