Ajda and Mohamed
born: 2017, 2018
murdered: March 10, 2019
Location: Bielefeld
Origin: Perpetrator: Turkey
Children: they are small children themselves
Perpetrator: their father Süleyman G. (41 years)
On March 10, Süleyman stabs the two children in their apartment. The mother is not there at the time of the crime. He injures himself, and then calls the ambulance. He confesses that he cut his children's throats with a kitchen knife. About 10 days later, he dies in the hospital of organ failure.

The real name of the mother is not known. She is 27 years old, 14 years younger than the father (and later murderer) of her children.

Is this an honour killing? The perpetrator can no longer be questioned. The dead are not investigated. If it was an act of desperation, this is not an honour killing. But if the motive is to harm the mother as much as possible because she wanted a divorce - then there is an honor motive.

What is an honour killing?

An honour killing is a murder in the name of honour. If a brother murders his sister to restore family honour, it is an honour killing. According to activists, the most common reasons for honour killings are as the victim:

Questions about honour killings

  • refuses to cooperate in an arranged marriage.

  • wants to end the relationship.

  • was the victim of rape or sexual assault.

  • was accused of having a sexual relationship outside of marriage.

Human rights activists believe that 100,000 honour killings are carried out every year, most of which are not reported to the authorities and some are even deliberately covered up by the authorities themselves, for example because the perpetrators are good friends with local policemen, officials or politicians. Violence against girls and women remains a serious problem in Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Serbia and Turkey.
