Honour killing story

Isa
born: 1994
Attempted murder: 2019
Location: Bielefeld
Origin: Perpetrator: Greek and Italian citizenship
Children: unclear
Perpetrator: her ex-boyfriend (27 years old at crime)
On May 4, 2019, a man stabs his ex-girlfriend in Bielefeld-Stieghorst on the public road near her apartment. The victim is badly injured when she reaches the hospital and survives. The perpetrator is arrested. A criminal investigation team is set up to investigate this attempted murder.

The perpetrator is called "Bielefelder" in the report. The photographs of his arrest - and the staging of the attempted murder with a knife on the public road - suggest in any case a non-Westphalian origin. Elsewhere it is said that he has an Italian and a Greek passport. It is possible that both passports are fake. Even before the crime, the perpetrator was violent against the victim. He was forbidden to approach the victim.

What is an honour killing?

An honour killing is a murder in the name of honour. If a brother murders his sister to restore family honour, it is an honour killing. According to activists, the most common reasons for honour killings are as the victim:

Questions about honour killings

  • refuses to cooperate in an arranged marriage.

  • wants to end the relationship.

  • was the victim of rape or sexual assault.

  • was accused of having a sexual relationship outside of marriage.

Human rights activists believe that 100,000 honour killings are carried out every year, most of which are not reported to the authorities and some are even deliberately covered up by the authorities themselves, for example because the perpetrators are good friends with local policemen, officials or politicians. Violence against girls and women remains a serious problem in Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Serbia and Turkey.
