Habibullah is an import groom from Afghanistan. In the autumn of 2011 he marries his cousin Nila, who lives in Germany, in Kabul. In the spring of 2012 he comes to Paderborn. There he goes to school.

There are probably incidents for which the police are called, the aliens office is informed.

On the night of October 8, 2012, Habibullah strangled his 19-year-old wife with a scarf and called the police.

In March 2013 the trial will start before the juvenile court of the regional court of Paderborn. Habibullah has been sentenced to 7 years and 6 months juvenile detention. He will certainly be deported after part of the sentence. Nila is not the real name of the woman.

What is an honour killing?

An honour killing is a murder in the name of honour. If a brother murders his sister to restore family honour, it is an honour killing. According to activists, the most common reasons for honour killings are as the victim:

  • wants to end the relationship.

  • was the victim of rape or sexual assault.

  • was accused of having a sexual relationship outside of marriage.

Human rights activists believe that 100,000 honour killings are carried out every year, most of which are not reported to the authorities and some are even deliberately covered up by the authorities themselves, for example because the perpetrators are good friends with local policemen, officials or politicians. Violence against girls and women remains a serious problem in Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Serbia and Turkey.
