Saban and Özgul have been married for more than 20 years but have no children.
In April 2011 Saban hits his wife so hard that she lies in hospital for four days. After that she doesn't want to go back to her husband, but moves in with her brother and his wife. On April 24th Saban comes to their apartment and wants to talk to his wife. Then he pulls out a knife and stabs her in the chest a few times. The brother hurries to help. Saban hurts him too.
Özgul's life can be saved by emergency surgery.
In October 2011 the trial will start at the regional court of Cologne. In January 2012 Saban was sentenced to 6 years imprisonment. The verdict says that he could not accept Özgul's wish to divorce. To what extent this includes his traditional understanding of his role cannot be judged by the chamber.
