Pascal E.
born: 1988
stabbed: 23/24 June 2010
City of residence: Hamburg
Origin: Victim: Germany; Perpetrator: Turkey/Aramean
Children: none
Perpetrator: Mathias A. (age 27 at the time of the crime)
On the evening of June 24, 2010, a few friends came home from a party. Mathias, an Aramean from Turkey, approaches Julia (21 years old). Her boyfriend Pascal (22 years old) intervenes. Mathias stabs him with six stitches. Another youth is wounded. Pascal dies in the hospital.

The police arrest Mathias in his parents' apartment. He is known to the police. It was a similar crime at the time.

In December 2010, the trial begins at the Hamburg District Court. In February 2011, Mathias is admitted to psychiatric care. This makes it questionable whether it is an honor killing. Presumably, this act can also be read as "Young man stabs young man in paranoid psychosis".

What is an honour killing?

An honour killing is a murder in the name of honour. If a brother murders his sister to restore family honour, it is an honour killing. According to activists, the most common reasons for honour killings are as the victim:

Questions about honour killings

  • refuses to cooperate in an arranged marriage.

  • wants to end the relationship.

  • was the victim of rape or sexual assault.

  • was accused of having a sexual relationship outside of marriage.

Human rights activists believe that 100,000 honour killings are carried out every year, most of which are not reported to the authorities and some are even deliberately covered up by the authorities themselves, for example because the perpetrators are good friends with local policemen, officials or politicians. Violence against girls and women remains a serious problem in Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Serbia and Turkey.
