Ewa is with Ali. She has a daughter, whether he is the father is unclear.

On May 5, 1992, Ali shoots her in her apartment. The motive is that she had contact with other men. Her friend (or relative) Magdalena enters the room. He also shoots her to escape. The 8-year-old daughter discovers the bodies.

In the apartment where the murder took place, Ali had been smoking a cigarette. With a large-scale saliva test around the women, Ali is convicted the same year and sentenced to life in prison. He committed 2 more murders: a robbery homicide and a murder of a homeless person.

Questions about honour killings

  • refuses to cooperate in an arranged marriage.

  • wants to end the relationship.

  • was the victim of rape or sexual assault.

  • was accused of having a sexual relationship outside of marriage.

Human rights activists believe that 100,000 honour killings are carried out every year, most of which are not reported to the authorities and some are even deliberately covered up by the authorities themselves, for example because the perpetrators are good friends with local policemen, officials or politicians. Violence against girls and women remains a serious problem in Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Serbia and Turkey.
