Thurayya A.
born: 1981
stabbed to death: February 1, 2023
Residence: Rendsburg (near Kiel)
Origin: presumably Palestinian from Syria
Children: 2 sons (10 and 12 years old at the time of the crime)
Perpetrator: her ex-husband Adnan A. (60 years)
On February 1, 2023, Thurayya brings her children to school in Rendsburg-Mastbrook, does not come home and is missing. On February 11, a farmer finds her body in the field between Börn and Klein Bennebek, about 30 km from Rendsburg.

As the perpetrator, it is initially said, a "family member" has been arrested. It is her ex-husband. It is not known whether there are further family connections. What is known, however, is that Thurayya wrote on social media about separation, slander, oppression and hatred. About 2 years earlier, Thurayya had divorced. After the act, the children come into the care of the Youth Welfare Office.

Thurayya is said to have grown up in Syria. Her ex-husband is Palestinian. He allegedly worked in a car dealership, was violent and aggressive.

What is an honour killing?

An honour killing is a murder in the name of honour. If a brother murders his sister to restore family honour, it is an honour killing. According to activists, the most common reasons for honour killings are as the victim:

Questions about honour killings

  • refuses to cooperate in an arranged marriage.

  • wants to end the relationship.

  • was the victim of rape or sexual assault.

  • was accused of having a sexual relationship outside of marriage.

Human rights activists believe that 100,000 honour killings are carried out every year, most of which are not reported to the authorities and some are even deliberately covered up by the authorities themselves, for example because the perpetrators are good friends with local policemen, officials or politicians. Violence against girls and women remains a serious problem in Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Serbia and Turkey.
