Fabian is not dead. The case is in this archive because of the unusual constellation.

At the end of 2011, 19-year-old Fabian will go out with 16-year-old Ayse. Her parents do not approve of the relationship. They even file charges to end the relationship. Eventually they also split up (possibly because Ayse is being brought to Turkey). Still, Fabian and her parents, who both have German passports, keep arguing. The father is a plumber.

A mutual friend wants to mediate in the matter. They meet at the Horn station in the district of Lippe. Ayse's father Ali and her mother Beyaz have beaten and stabbed Fabian. The victim loses a lot of blood, his life is in danger for a few days, but he survives.

The father reports to the police at the scene of the crime, the woman flees first, but is arrested later.

The prosecution is investigating attempted murder. Both perpetrators are in custody and remain silent. They have two other daughters (2 and 10 years) and a son (15 years), who are probably cared for by family members after the crime.

Fabian completed the training to become a roofer, which he had to demolish because of his injuries. He survived the attack thanks to a doctor who happens to be present.

It is also said that the girl was previously beaten by her parents and received at their request by the Child Welfare Office. Some family members also play a role, for example the perpetrator's escape aid, the distant relatives where she was arrested, an uncle who later tells the press that it all has nothing to do with the fact that Fabian is a German. And an aunt with whom the girl lives in Turkey.

In December 2013 the trial on attempted manslaughter will start in the regional court of Detmold. The father will be sentenced to 6 years and 6 months imprisonment, the mother to 4 years. Both parties will appeal. A new trial will start in January 2015. A threatening letter will appear against the victim's lawyer. In the meantime, the father is also charged with a prison sentence. At the new trial the verdicts will be confirmed.

Ayse is not the real name of the girl. In the meantime they have taken her to Turkey.

What is an honour killing?

An honour killing is a murder in the name of honour. If a brother murders his sister to restore family honour, it is an honour killing. According to activists, the most common reasons for honour killings are as the victim:

Questions about honour killings

  • refuses to cooperate in an arranged marriage.

  • wants to end the relationship.

  • was the victim of rape or sexual assault.

  • was accused of having a sexual relationship outside of marriage.

Human rights activists believe that 100,000 honour killings are carried out every year, most of which are not reported to the authorities and some are even deliberately covered up by the authorities themselves, for example because the perpetrators are good friends with local policemen, officials or politicians. Violence against girls and women remains a serious problem in Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Serbia and Turkey.
